We love classy TV shows, and the USA Network has a great tradition for putting them together. We are already big fans of Burn Notice – and the show “White Collar” is in the same vein – a great looking, entertaining show with some eye-candy thrown in for good measure.

Matt Bomer plays Neal Caffrey – an ex-con who now helps the FBI bring down other con artists. The man wears a suit extremely well – take note all you aspiring Hollywood wannabes. Tiffani Thiessen and Marsha Thomason help stop the male audience from changing channels.

The storylines are great, the look very stylish, making it another Style Guide favourite.

Here at the Gentleman’s Guide to Style we are always on the lookout for other sources for style inspiration, especially on the world wide web.

Three of our current favourites include:

Charles Tyrwhitt – Hints for a modern gentleman
We love Charles Tyrwhitt, especially their Italian Travel Suit, and these hints really resonate with the English gentleman in us. Especially the piece on the Ten items that should be in every modern gent’s wardrobe.

Gilt Man
We are suckers for good deals on anything from stylish suits to suave separates. Gilt offers a fantastic range of designer sales, with new ones being added daily. Our staff have already availed of several big discounts on jackets and timepieces thanks to the Gilt Groupe, and we look forward to seeing more. Their Jetsetter site also offers great deals on stylish travel.

Magnificent Bastard
The MB, as it is fondly known, is at the top of our list, and offers great insight on all matters style. It offers great go-to guides on everything from watch straps to cocktails to custom shirts.
The Body Shop has harnessed the magic of the maca root to produce a great men's moisturizer - so good that it earns our seal of approval...

In our original Face Time post we really liked the Body Shop For Men Face Protector, but it did have a few shortcomings – the consistency of the lotion was a little thick for our liking, and it lacked sun protection.

The Body Shop now has an updated product – the For Men Maca Root Energetic Face Protector, and we like it. The texture and consistency are much better, and it also provides SPF 15 protection. It really tightens the skin, and doesn’t clog the pores. We are not sure we really believe all the claims about the properties and virtues of the root, but we are definitely impressed with the results. That puts it on our list with a Recommended Seal of Approval.

The early 1960′s were stylish. The clothes were stylish, the cars were stylish – and the TV show epitomising that style is AMC’s Mad Men. Hell, even the opening credits are cool.

Mad Men tells the story of 1960′s advertising executives on Madison Avenue (hence the “Mad”) in New York. The lead character, Don Draper, is a cool, slick talker who has a way with the women. His wife, Betty Draper, is a Grace Kelly lookalike. The entire cast dresses well, the plot is excellent, and even the lighting is stylish.

Mad Men also illustrates society in the early 1960′s – from the constant cigarette smoking to the whole changing social structure and male/female dynamics.

Mad Men is possibly one of the best shows on television, with the awards to match. And it’s combination of plot and style earns it our Recommended Seal of Approval. If you haven’t seen it, go and rent Season One on DVD now.

When it comes to the classic Gin & Tonic, there are a number of players in the market who vie for the title of the best Gin. Our favourite for both taste and style is Tanqueray No. Ten.

Tanqueray No. Ten was introduced to market in the year 2000, and at the time was the only gin to be distilled with hand-picked, fresh fruit botanicals. That includes oranges, limes and grapefruits as well as the traditional botanicals such as juniper. The bottle is distinctively tall whilst still retaining some of the hallmarks of the traditional Tanqueray stubby dry gin bottle – green glass and the signature red “T” seal. It certainly stands out alongside other gins in a bar gantry.

It’s impact was immediate – it won a Double Gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2000, and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2003 for winning “Best Gin” for the third year in a row.

From a taste perspective it is said that No. Ten was really devised for the Martini market, but the nature of the spirit makes it the perfect spirit for the perfect G&T. It has a tremendous depth of flavor infused by the botanicals, and there is a sweetness that carries through the tonic water. We like the resulting cocktail so much we give Tanqueray No. Ten our Recommended Seal of Approval.

Wrinkles aren’t stylish or classy. Yes, some say that men get better looking as they get older, but no-one likes someone with skin as wrinkled as a shar-pei. Sun damage is a real issue, so the best way to stop the burn and fight those facial lines is to give your face moisture and sun protection at the same time.

One of the best choices is Garnier Nutritioniste Skin Renew Anti-Sun-Damage. It comes in a convenient pump-action bottle, it’s non-oily and offers SPF 28 protection. It is absorbed quickly and the sun protection works well. One downside – the bottle is bright green, so not particularly manly. We like this product so much we give it our Recommended Seal of Approval.

As far as products specifically for men are concerned, we recommend two:

1) Body Shop has the For Men Face Protector – which is pretty good, albeit a little thick. It gives your face a sheen and seems to tighten it up. The downside – no sun protection

2) Jack Black’s Double Duty Face Moisturizer SPF 20 with Blue Algae Extract and Sea Parsley – this is a really great product – smells fantastic and is quickly absorbed. The only comment is that it doesn’t give quite the same sheen to the skin as the Body Shop product does.

Travelling in style also includes your clothing. If you are getting on and off aeroplanes, hopping in and out of cabs or being squished on the subway, you need your clothes to work with you, not against you. Looking smart at check-in is one thing – but the important thing is to still look smart when you arrive.

That is where the Rohan travel suit comes in. It is really two pieces – the Envoy Jacket and Envoy trousers. It’s one of the best in the business. It is crease-resistant, lightweight, has numerous pockets, and is quick-drying. Admittedly, it is a little pricey, but style like this doesn’t come cheap, and it will last a lifetime. We like combination of Envoy Jacket and Envoy trousers so much we give it our Recommended Seal of Approval.

Another option is offered by one of our favourite tailors, Charles Tyrwhitt. Their Italian Travel Suit is classy and designed to keep you looking fresh, even when you are stepping off the red-eye. The good news for US residents is that Charles Tyrwhitt has two stores in Manhattan.
